State Dutch
Oven Gathering (DOG)
May 13-15, 2005
Three families from the Seabreeze Chapter, the Butlers, the Moaks, and the Gidneys, attended the State DOG and General Membership meeting May 13, 14, & 15th., 2005. This was a camping weekend that was held at Leisure Camp in Fentress, Texas. The LSDOS had the outdoor covered pavilion for Saturday and Sunday where we could all gather to learn, fellowship with new and old friends, and cook. There were RV sites with full hookups for those with RVs, and also air-conditioned cabins for rent where we all stayed. There was also tent camping avaliable. This is a private campground on the banks of the San Marcos River and a beautiful place to spend the weekend. We started our Saturday morning with a sour dough bread making class presented by Sam Miller. This was a very good class that just made you want to cook some bread. Well that is how it affected most folks. It made us want to find one of those neat bread mixing buckets he had and then cook some bread. After the class we set up our cooking area and got started cooking. The plan was to have the food on the table at 2:00 PM and the business meeting at 4:00 PM, Saturday. We held close to that schedule. I can always get too much to eat at one of our Chapter DOGs. With cooks from almost every chapter in the LSDOS bringing a pot to the table I, well I ate too much. It was all so good. Somebody called it a teaspoon buffet and they were right. Just a taste from each pot was all the volume of food that you could handle. Sunday morning we did it again with a brunch. Same effect, I ate too much but that is part of what I went there for. We learned some things, got some new ideas, met some really nice folks, and had a lot of fun. Fun, Food, and Fellowship, that is what it is all about. I can't wait to do it again.
