Dutch Oven
Gathering (DOG) #2
March 6, 2005
Our second official DOG was held March 6, 2005 at Seabreeze Park in La
Porte, TX. A total of 27 were in attendance. Six families cooked in 15
ovens. The weather could have been better but we didn't let a little rain
stop us. The park lived up to its name and a good breeze blew off the
bay and kept us all in jackets. Later in the year when it gets "Gulf
Coast Warm" we can think back to March 6th and how good it felt to
stand next to those hot ovens and visit while the food cooked. We had
invited several people that stayed home because of the rain and so we
had enough food to feed a small army that didn't arrive. Our menu included
pork roast stuffed with andouille sausage, brisket, applesauce beef loaf,
cowboy meat loaf, rosemary chicken and vegetables, chili, pasta and fagioli
soup, Texas potatoes, scalloped potatoes, sweet potato casserole, vegetable
delight, pinto beans, dinner rolls, brownies, pumpkin cobbler, and cherry
pie. I would call this a feast fit for a king but I don't know if a king
eats this good! We did and too much I'm sure. We had a short meeting after
we packed up to reflect on the day and to discuss our next DOG that will
be Sunday, April 10th, 12:30pm to 6pm at the same park and some other
administrative business.
