Dutch Oven
Gathering (DOG) #21
March 16, 2008
On Sunday March 16, 2008 the Seabreeze Chapter held our monthly DOG. The theme this month was Irish, make it green. We lived up to our name by having a brisk east all afternoon and green food. That wind kept us cool and made it a challenge to keep the ovens hot. It made it a challenge to keep the oven on the coals. The wagons were rocking in the breeze. When it came time to eat we had a very enjoyable and tasty meal. Maybe some of the best food we have ever had. We had three families cooking in 7 ovens for a total of 9 people present at meal time. We enjoyed Guinness beef stew, and Irish apple crisp cooked by Neil and Linda Buso. Alice and Bob Gidney made caraway beef roast with potatoes and carrots and dill-onion batter bread. Ken and Sandra Butler made mint chocolate chip cake, cabbage roll casserole, reuben baked potatoes, green rice crispy treats, and green punch. Wow, it was all so good. Just the sight of all those steaming Dutch ovens made you want to grab, root, and growl in the buffet line. I think I may have grabbed too much, rooted too long, and now I'm growlin' because I may have hurt myself. Not the grab, root, and growl I had in mind when I started down that food line. In true Seabreeze tradition, before it was over I was green. If you were there you know what I talkin' about. If you weren't there, you missed a good one on me!!!! You will just have to watch the website for the pictures and recipes and ask someone that was there what took place. If you don't show you miss the fun.
Our next DOG is Sunday, April 20th in Deer Park.
The theme is pot-luck. Clear your calendar for that Sunday and get out
there with us. Remember, it is time to pay your dues. Go to the LSDOS
website, print a form, and mail it in with your LSDOS dues. Also don't
forget that we need to recruit some folks to come cook with us. Be thinking
who that is and give them an invitation for next month with or without
their Dutch oven. Let's get them there and get them interested. We just
have too much fun to not share it with others and our numbers are dwindling.
