Dutch Oven
Gathering (DOG) #6
December 18, 2005
The Seabreeze Chapter December DOG was held the 18th behind the Maxwell center in Deer Park. The weather was really good the first 2 hours, sunny and semi warm, but the last 2 hours it clouded up and cooled off. Our theme was cake, cookies, and cobbler. We got busy eating all those desserts and didn't notice the cool weather until it was time to clean up. Bob and Alice Gidney made a big pot of vegetable soup so that we had something to eat besides sweets. We didn't want any upset mothers.
We had four families cooking in eight ovens. This was Todd and Callie
Gidney's first time to cook and they cooked up a lazy cobbler and a peppermint
pound cake. That peppermint cake was just wonderful. Neil Buso, our wood
carver, made a berry pie and carved a fleur-de-lis in the crust. Looked
like a Scout pie and tasted way better than any Scout food I've ever had.
Ken and Sandra Butler made brownies, peach turnovers, and a pumpkin spice
cake with red glaze. It was wonderful and really looked like a Christmas
cake. Bob and Alice Gidney made walnut/ apricot filled bread and Logan
Gidney hand churned some butter for it. Neil took some of the left over
walnut/apricot filling and some of his left over pie crust and made a
walnut/apricot tart. We had 22 folks there counting the friends and family
members that stopped by. I wish all our regulars could have been there
and got in on the fun and good food but this is a busy time of year. Maybe
we will be full strenth in January when the theme is soups and stews.
