Committees of Ani-Lati

Ever thought about what drives your Chapter?  Didn't think so.  It's a shame because you've been to several trainings on it.  Don't remember those?  They're called Troop JLTs.  Yes, it's true.  Running a Troop is almost, if not exactly, like running the Chapter.  We talk about Patrols at JLT and about their importance on the Troop level.  Committees serve this function on the Chapter level, and unless the Committees work, you've just got a few guys standing around sayin', "What are we gonna do?"  Every Arrowman should be a member of a Committee in his Chapter.  Check out the entire list of Committees and click on one that sparks your interest, then contact the Chapter Chief or the Chapter Advisor to learn more about them.

Unit Elections

Chairman

Adviser  John Tremaine

"The Order of the Arrow is not a social club or clique.  It's not a popularity contest.  Look around you and vote for those Scouts who you can depend on.  Who's always on a campout?  Who do you value as a true Scout that lives up to the Scout Oath and Law in their everyday life?"

Do you remember this?  Every year some guys show up and do an OA election.  This could be you!  It'll give you a chance to see all your buddies in other troops, from Chapter meetings and events along with the camporee.  Enjoy public speaking?  Wanna get over your fear of speaking so you can join a ceremonies team?  Well c'mon!  After all, most of the talking is done by the video so it'll give you an opportunity to dip a toe in public speaking.

Duties

•Secure a district roster for troop contact information and appropriate forms and video material to carry out the elections.

•Become familiar with requirements for eligibility for election as a candidate.

•Work with the Elections Advisor to schedule unit elections for all eligible troops in the district, assuring that all elections are completed prior to the Lodge deadline.

•Be sure to confirm time and place of the election and request presence of a TV/VCR and unit ballots. Advise unit leaders to prepare correct list of candidates prior to elections. Procedures will require the candidate’s name including middle initial, address, telephone number, rank, and date of birth.

•Assemble and train unit election teams to conduct the elections. Stress proper uniform, punctuality, and preparation for elections.

•Submit proper election forms for all units, including those not eligible to hold elections, to the Advisor.

Camp Promotions

Chairman

Adviser  John Tremaine

Are you a camp staffer?  Are you a camp staffer wanna-be?  Jump on the Camp Promotions bandwagon!  Camp staffers know most about all the camps and are more qualified to talk them up than the average Joe.  All you've got to do is stand up in front of a group and brag about the camp you staff at.  This helps convince some of those timid 12-year-old Scouts that summer camp is fun.  For some of you wanna-be camp staffers, it gives you a chance to meet other staffers in the Chapter and gives you some people to know when you become a staffer yourself.  You've already got a group of friends at camp before you even start!

Duties

•Work with the Chapter Advisor to secure camp promotion material.

•Develop a camp promotion presentation.

•Assemble and train camp promotion teams.

Coordinate with Unit Elections Chairman to schedule camp promotions presentations at each unit after the unit election.

Assure that there is a presentation given to each unit so that we have 100% camp promotion record in the district and assure proper documentation is turned in to the Chapter Advisor.

Brotherhood

Chairman

Advisor  John Eaton

Advisor  Barry Armstrong

Attaining Brotherhood is one of those defining moments in life where you decide to do something or not.  It is a major honor to be inducted into the Order, and only a few receive this honor; however, even fewer take time to understand the program and become active.  Help those who aren't active to become active, and teach those Ordeal members the secrets of the Order on the path to Brotherhood membership.  From the words of Allowat Sakima, "Friends, the ones who chose you need you!  Who among you now is ready?  Who will go upon the journey?  You must choose."

Assistant Advisor  Jerry McNeil

Think back to your Cub Scouting days . . . what can you remember?  At every single Blue & Gold there was a team of Indians there that graduated those Fifth-Grade Webelos to Boy Scout status with the Arrow of Light.  Think back to your Ordeal . . . what can you remember?  A couple of really awesome ceremonies.  Would you like to try this on for size?  It's a really awesome way to get over fear of crowds and dip-a-toe in some acting.  Some of our biggest ceremony guys were really into theatre at their high schools.  Maybe you're already a theatre junkie . . . come on down and help out others with some stage expertise.  Maybe you just need some more community service and figure it's a pretty easy way.  Whatever your reason, come with us and let's get to it.

Service

Chairman

Advisor

What is the foundation of our Order?  What was E. Urner Goodman really trying to tell us?  Service is the key!  After all, we are a Brotherhood of Cheerful Service and we should set the example out there.  If you think about it, we're the largest, youth run, service dedicated organization in the United States.  That's pretty cool.  We can plan projects throughout the year and invite any and all Scouts to come out and get some community service hours.  Even get friends from around the community to join in since colleges love seeing community service on those college applications.  And hey, if you do a lotta work with this, you can even get the service clan sash!  What are the requirements?  Check it out on the forms page and I hope to see you soon.

Unit Assistance

Advisor  Steve Willis

This is actually, perhaps the most important clan of them all.  This is one of those vital programs that keeps troops and boys involved.  Basically, we are a system of communication throughout the chapter to know and use the resources of the entire group; the group being all the units in the district.  Imagine wanting to do a troop program but not having the equipment or the know-how to get it done.  Will you give up?  NOOOOOO.  You call the troop rep up and ask him to talk to the proper people to get some help.  So you wanna go rock climbing; maybe you take a few guys from another troop and some of their troop equipment, and BAM, you have a few trained individuals and equipment, where otherwise you would have been stuck doing orienteering again.

Chairman  Travis Wright

Advisor  Rocky Stevenson

This has got to be the most fun committee of all!  You'll see us at the Fall Pow-wow  dancin' up a storm.  We do a lot of learning about different tribes, particularly the Ponca, and try to uphold their traditions.  We're usually the ones dancing, drumming and singing and we have a blast.  We've won a lot of awards at Section and NOAC and have a fellowship all our own.

Come on out and join us . . . you'll never sing music on-the-beat again!
